File Resolution

The following information is for raster images such as TIFF, JPEG or PSD documents that are built at 100% size.

Lambda output         recommended resolution 200 ppi
• Use 400 ppi if your graphic contains type less than 12 pt. in size
• Lambda output is continuous tone which creates a higher quality look regardless of resolution

Poli output         recommended resolution 254 ppi
• Poli output is continuous tone which creates a higher quality look regardless of resolution

Canon fine art printer         recommended file resolution 400 ppi
• Although your image will be printed at a much higher resolution, the naked eye rarely distinguishes resolutions above 400 ppi when it comes to paintings and photography

HP Designjet         recommended resolution 300 ppi
• Files containing text smaller than 14 pt. may require 400 ppi

Vutek PressVu         recommended resolution 150 ppi
• Files containing text smaller than 14 pt. are recommended for Lambda output instead

Vutek UltraVu         recommended resolution 150 ppi
• Grand format printing is the most forgiving in terms of resolution; it is not uncommon for files to be around 75 ppi when printed

Concerning files for large output:

Please do not provide any file over 900 megabytes as we will only reduce its size in order to make it more manageable.

Output size and image content is more of a consideration than device resolution in determining the ppi for your file. For example, large output is usually observed from a distance and therefore is less critical regarding resolution. Graphics such as photos can get by with less resolution than graphics containing sharp text on a white background.
